The Artifact 4th edition

This is a work in progress print. It is not the completed game but includes more than the rough draft made available earlier.

The Artifact is a game of adventure, discovery and finding a home. The Artifact is alien, it's familiar, welcoming, and hostile. Can you find your place in it? This edition makes the distinction between a rule, something that is always used in the game, and a tool, something that the players pick up and use when it will help tell the story. The action takes place in a high tech world and the Tech Challenge tool helps the players put scientific and technical expertise in its proper place in the story. Survival Challenges allow the environment to be a living element of the game. Use these tools when they suit you and put them down when they’d be in the way.

Earth can no longer sustain us. Dozens of probes with Alcubierre drives were sent out, hoping to find a world we could survive on. What they found was beyond expectations. One probe discovered a world, an artifact, a constructed object, that was built to support human life. This monster world, 85,000 km long, and 31,000 wide is perfect for our needs. Unfortunately the current inhabitants are not ready to welcome us.

Long range teleporters allow one way travel to this distant world. You will be among the first to attempt finding a home, not just for yourself, but for everyone else waiting on Earth.
